Spatial Threat Project

Spatial Threat Project is a public intervention that utilizes stickers to anonymously identify and deface obstructions in the everyday landscape that hinder inclusivity. The sticker is placed on the obstruction itself that poses a threat to the existence of an individual or group of peoples. This mode of vandalism is a form of co-option to disrupt the idle complacency of the surroundings. The labeling subverts the power of this obstacle in the space where the sticker reads “! Obstruction Identified.” Beneath this label is the website for the project where onlookers might frequent. There they can find a digital archive of these documented interventions. The project exists to democratize public spaces. Obstructions can range from non-universal product design, non-ADA-compliant spaces, microaggressions, public bigotry, and other threats that are perceived in public and semi-private spaces.
